Santos Laguna’s Estrada highlights US-Mexico rivalry ahead of Dynamo clash

For Ivan Estrada, whenever clubs from Mexico and the United States go head-to-head, there is no denying there is a little extra spice to the encounter.

“It’s always going to be that way,” Santos fullback Estrada said. “At club level and with the national team, there’s always a soccer rivalry.”

Added Estrada: “We hope to move forward and to be able to make Mexico proud.”

The Guerreros take on Houston Dynamo in Texas on Tuesday evening in the quarter final of the CONCACAF Champions League, a competition that the team from Torreon is desperate to win.

“We have a dream of becoming champions, getting known and going to a Club World Cup,” explained 29-year-old Estrada.

Santos Laguna overcame MLS sides Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders in last season’s competition but fell at the final hurdle in an intense series against Monterrey.

The return leg against the Dynamo is in Mexico next Wed, March 13.
